Nestlé Recalls 440,000 Starbucks Mugs Due to Overheating Concerns

Description of affected mugs

However, the recall suggests that issues have also occurred when hot beverages were simply poured into the mugs.

Selling locations and dates
The affected mugs were sold both online and in-store at popular retailers such as Target, Walmart, and Nexcom. They were available as part of the Starbucks Holiday Gift Sets from November 2023 to January 2024. Some of these gift sets included packages of Starbucks hot cocoa mix, which were previously recalled in November 2023 due to the presence of illegal amounts of lead.

It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time Starbucks has addressed concerns related to overheating and product safety. In 2007, Starbucks recalled its 14-ounce Fusion Coffee mugs. These mugs, made from plastic and stainless steel, had detachable plastic handles that posed a risk when filled with hot liquid. The recall was initiated after 23 incident reports were received, with nine instances of minor burns reported.
