Functionality and Design
The Front of the Bag: Admin Compartment and Quick Access Pocket
The front of the bag features a wide opening admin compartment with organization slots for pens, cables, earbuds, and other small items. Behind this compartment lies a zippered pocket with a D-ring, perfect for storing important items out of the way. The admin pocket is designed with a contrasting liner, providing excellent visibility and ease of use.
Below the main handle, you’ll find a slender quick access pocket lined with a stretch mesh, allowing for flexibility and accommodating larger items, such as a full-sized iPhone 15 Pro Max. This pocket is a testament to the attention to detail that TAD brings to their designs, providing a convenient storage solution that stays out of the way when not in use.
Water Bottle Pocket and Laptop Sleeve
The water bottle pocket, located on the right side of the bag, comfortably holds slender bottles like the 20oz MiiR bottle. The pocket is designed to keep the contents hidden within the confines of the bag, maintaining its sleek silhouette.
The laptop sleeve, accessed from the left side of the bag via a weatherproof zipper, features a floating wall design, allowing for easy access to the main volume without having to open the full clamshell. The main volume of the Axiom S2 is one of the most functional compartments I’ve encountered. The bag strikes a balance between pockets and open space, allowing for organization and flexibility. The admin pocket, bellow pockets on the rear of the panel, and a large open cavity provide ample storage options. You can choose to organize your gear with pouches, like the TAD Transport pouches, or leave it open for easy access.
Comfort
Redesigned Back Panel for Maximum Airflow
One of the standout features of the Axiom S2 WX Pack is the redesigned back panel, which prioritizes airflow and comfort. Padded with closed cell cross-linked polyethylene foam, the channeled back panel provides all-day carry comfort. The channel that runs down the center allows for excellent airflow, keeping you cool and comfortable even during extended use.
The Axiom S2 also features load lifters, a feature that’s not always seen on smaller EDC packs. These lifters make a significant difference to comfort, particularly when carrying heavier loads or being active. The sternum strap, while functional, could be improved with a Fidlock V buckle or similar for smoother one-handed function.
